Another lovely Ecuadorean flower. The photograph is a little fuzzy. I'll see if I can snap a better one. (Otra hermosa flor ecuatoriana.

Here's a little watercolor I did of one of the many beautiful flowers in Ecuador.

Kick Brass!

This was a class project done in vine charcoal. It took me 4 hours to do it. I discovered that the thing is off center. When I dropped a plumb line trough the center of the top finial it didn't fall at the center of the base. No wonder it was a bear to draw! The next class project is to do this urn in color which will be stunning. The backdrop is deep royal blue and the coffee urn is brass. I kept the line drawing so all I need to do is transfer it to a new sheet of paper. No more drawing the urn   :o)

Racked 'n' Stacked

This one needs a little more work too. But it's coming along.

Éste necesita trabajar un poco más también. Pero está llegando a lo largo.

Silver Pitcher - Jarra de Plata

This is a class exercise dealing with reflections and drapery using vine charcoal.

Purple And Pears - Púrpura y peras

I think I still need to work on this one a bit. The pears need some attention...mid values and highlights are missing.

Red Bart

I haven't worked with watercolors in many years. I decided to become familiar with them again because it's the most transportable medium. My little kit is coming to Ecuador with me. If it isn't too awful I'll post the work I do.

Mop Top

I need to buy some reds! I have brick (brownish) reds, tomato reds and a bunch of lavendars and pinks. But I don't have any deep purple reds. I think I'll take this onion to the art store and get some matches.

Canyon - an oil painting by my dad, Gus Henrickson - 'Canyon' un óleo de mi padre, Gus Henrickson

My father was a chemist but he loved to create works of art too. He worked in oils and also made wonderful lithograph prints of weathered trees and stark landscapes.

Tom

I was getting really frustrated with this watercolor paper, so I decided to experiment by brushing it with modeling paste (a la Bill Creevy) to create a somewhat uneven, rough suface. The treated paper didn't respond to gentle treatment. So, as you can see I had to get rough with it....grrrrrrr...

Peachy Pear

This one was done on Wallis sanded paper without the Minwax stain. It was really hard on my little finger...the one I use to blend!

My work space...otherwise known as the dining room. Sorry, you'll have to eat standing up. Oh my, what I would give for a place with SPACE and LIGHT!

Jazzy Apple

I tip my hat to Casey Klahn for helping me find color. Another tip to Janeen Schissler for helping me rediscover form and value. And to Carol Marine for stressing the importance of painting something every day. My thanks to all! BTW, I'm having a blast!

Buxom Bosc

This is another 30 minute study. I like the freshness...the loosness of these. I tend to get really tight when I paint. So working fast helps to keep it lively.

That's One Hot Granny!

I've been using inexpensive white, drawing paper for most of the work that I've done this summer. This one is done on sanded illustration board that I used for another pastel piece that I didn't like. I obliterated the original work with Minwax wood stain. The surface is wonderful. And it only took me 30 minutes to do this one! I really like the way it turned out. I struggle with the cheaper paper for a couple of hours, sometimes more!

Red Anjou

The photograph doesn't show the blues in the shaded area of the pear. I need to play with the lighting a little to see if I can get a better match on the colors.

Coffee Cup - Color Exercise IV
It's harder than it looks. Natural objects are much easier to make look right than man-made objects. Now that class is out for the summer I can get back to doing fun stuff.
